Positive Discipline at Home: Setting Limits with Love

Children thrive on boundaries—they help them feel safe and secure. Positive discipline means setting firm limits without fear or shame. Here’s how:
Stay calm and consistent. When your child misbehaves, respond with a calm voice and predictable consequences.
Set clear expectations. For example, say “We clean up toys after playing” instead of “Don’t be messy.”
Validate feelings, not behaviors. “I see you’re upset, but hitting is not okay. Let’s take a break together.”
Offer limited choices. “Do you want to brush your teeth now or in 5 minutes?”
Follow through gently but firmly. If a rule is broken, calmly enforce the agreed-upon consequence.
